In the face of challenging global economic conditions and a new world of investing, Blackrock wanted to know what people in Australia were thinking about their financial futures. So, in partnership with independent research agency Cicero Group, they surveyed 1,000 people in Australia to understand what was on their minds. The survey was also conducted globally, providing responses from a total of 17,600 people aged from 25-75 years old.

The conclusions are intended to provide an indication of the current attitude of a sample of citizens in Australia to saving and investing and should not be relied upon for any other purposes.

Half of all SMSF assets in retirement phase

Around half of $506 billion held in self-managed superannuation funds (SMSFs) are in retirement assets, according to new research from DEXX&R.

According to the research house’s report, $296 billion is currently held in the retirement phase, supporting the consensus view that SMSFs are being used by investors with larger balances, who want more control of their retirement savings.

The population and wealth of high net worth individuals (HNWIs) reached record levels in Asia-Pacific in 2012, propelling global growth. Driven by solid gains throughout the region, especially in Hong Kong and India, Asia-Pacific HNWI population and wealth continued a long trend of outperformance. Since 2007, Asia-Pacific has increased its HNWI population by 31% and its wealth by 27%, well in excess of the rest of the world increases of 14% for HNWI population and 9% for wealth.
