 In 2013, the population of Asia-Pacific’s High Net Worth Individuals (HNWIs) grew by 17.3% compared to 13.5% in the rest of the world. During the same time, their wealth expanded by 18.2% whilst the increase in wealth in the rest of the world increased by 12.3%. The strong growth in 2013 resulted in the number of HNWIs in the Asia-Pacific region reaching a record 4.3 million and owning a total of US$14.2 trillion of assets.

The Effect of the Mining Boom on the Australian Economy

Abstract (Source: RBA):This paper estimates the effects of the mining boom in Australia, using a large-scale structural macroeconometric model, AUS-M. We estimate that the mining boom boosted real per capita household disposable income by 13 per cent by 2013. The boom has contributed to a large appreciation of the Australian dollar that has weighed on other industries exposed to trade, such as manufacturing and agriculture. However, because manufacturing benefits from higher demand for inputs to mining, the deindustrialisation that sometimes accompanies resource booms – the so-called ‘Dutch disease’ – has not been strong.
