Qualifications and experience:
- Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment (FINSIA);
- Master of Business (Business Management) – Curtin University, Perth;
- Graduate Diploma in Business and Management – Curtin University, Perth;
- Bachelor of Science (Quantity Surveying) – University of Natal, Durban
Cavil has over 25 years experience in both retail and institutional funds management. Previous positions include:
1) Director of Investments of the Government Employees Superannuation Board in Western Australia with responsibility for developing, implementing and managing an investment strategy and research process that successfully converted a $700 million moribund investment portfolio into a balanced, low risk portfolio comprised of prime, income-producing and liquid assets. The portfolio is now valued at over $22.5bn.
2) Associate Director, Strategy – BZW Investment Management Australia Limited with responsibilities including, as a member of the Investment Committee, investment strategy; asset allocation; and domestic equity portfolio management.
3) The Head of Listed, Unlisted and Alternative Securities research at a financial planning division of the National Australia Bank with responsibility for developing, implementing and managing a research process that analysed listed and unlisted securities (including alternative and property securities) and to provide security recommendations to about 100 financial advisers. Given the positive results achieved by the team of five analysts, the service was gradually leveraged over a period of five years to all Licencees (comprising about 1500 financial advisers) in the National Australia Bank Group on a user-pays basis.
The director participates in the SMAs service provided by Phoenix – thus ensuring that there is an appropriate alignment of interests between the director of Phoenix and its clients.
External Consultant: Quantitative analyses is provided on a part-time basis by an external consultant.
Praemium Limited: Used for all administrative functions, including transaction recording, tax reporting and performance calculations.
Praemium Limited was founded in 2001 to meet the market need for a technologically advanced portfolio administration service to effectively administer the increasingly widespread participation in direct equity investments. Praemium’s range of portfolio management services are used by accountants, financial planners, stockbrokers, self-managed super fund administrators and large institutions; who generally rebrand and re-package the services for their own customers.
